Term:            Part-time (30-40 hours/ month) for 6 Months with possibility to become Full-Time.

Pay:               $24/ hour

Dept:            Treaty Office (Transitioning to Lands and Resource Office or Administration)

Reports to:      Chief Negotiator and Committee Chair  (then LRO Manager or CAO)

1.       Summary

Gwa’sala –‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations is in the development stage of the Framework Agreement on First Nation Reserve Land management.  We are developing the Awi-Nagwis Land Code.  If Members vote in favour of it in March 2026, GNN will move out from under the Indian Act and take over our own management of our Reserve lands.

We need a Coordinator to help manage the processes for the developing the Awi’Nagwis Land Code and coordinating with our Committee, Members, Council, staff and hereditary chiefs.

We need help coordinating our Committee, which take place every month or so.  We also need help preparing for communications and meeting with Members leading up to the vote.

If Members vote in favour of the Awi’Nagwis Code, the Coordinator will help set up the operational phase which includes a Awi’Nagwis Code Office including human resources and administrative procedures for the creation of GNN Reserve Land laws.

 

2.       Awi’Nagwis Code Coordinator Duties:

2.1 Creating the Plan

Working with the Committee and project consultants, create a work plan that establishes the completion of an Awi’Nagwis Code.  The work plan should include time frames with milestones and reflect GNN community aspirations.

 

2.2 Awi’Nagwis Code Committee Operations

The Coordinator will manage and oversee the Committee process, including  but not limited to:

§  Working with the Committee Chair and project consultants, create Committee meeting schedules, agendas, and oversee staff to secure meeting room space/catering and supplies.

§  Set up Microsoft Team links for Committee and team members who are unable to attend meetings in person.

§  Ensure policies are in place and kept up to date for Committee operations, such as the Terms of Reference, honorariums and travel.

§  Ensure that notices of meetings are communicated to Committee members in a timely manner and that provisions are made for note taking.

§  Help coordinate trips to the Homelands for meetings in the Homelands.

§  Be a point of contact for Committee members who may have operational or administrative questions.

 

2.3 Communications and Community Engagement

To support good communication and community engagement, the Coordinator will:

§  Help create a communication strategy to locate and inform GNN Members who will be voting.

§  Facilitate and oversee the development of communication material for use with GNN Membership to develop an Awi’Nagwis Code, i.e., pamphlets, brochures, PowerPoints, FAQs, and newsletters.

§  Create and seek opportunities for the Committee to engage with GNN community members on the Awi’Nagwis Code initiative, including but not limited to attending Annual Membership Meetings, Elder luncheons, Treaty Open Houses, Hereditary Chief sessions etc.

§  Act as a point of contact for Members who have questions about the process.

§  Develop/manage appropriate social media accounts to inform and engage with GNN Members.

§  Provide regular reports to the Members, Council, Treaty Table and relevant funding bodies as prescribed and through newsletters and social media.

 

2.4 Coordination of the Awi’Nagwis Code and Individual Agreement Vote

Working with the project legal advisor, Committee, and the Land Code Advisor at the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, the Coordinator will ensure that processes and procedures are set up for the ratification vote. This will involve locating eligible voters and creating a work plan, budget, and time frame.

 

2.5 Administrative Duties / Project Management

The Coordinator will assist with supporting the administration of the project by:

§  Developing and tracking a project budget working with the GNN Finance office and the project consultants.

§  Completing reports as may be required by the funding body.

§  Liaising with the Committee and the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre who works with GNN on the land code developmental process.

§  Ensure land use data, maps and information are collected.

§  Provide advice to Chief and Council , Land Code committee Lands and Resources Manager on lands and resources issues, where appropriate.

§  Assist in preparing and drafting Briefing Notes to Chief and Council.

 

3.       Work Experience, Education and Knowledge, and Skills:

 

The Coordinator preferably has some of the following experience:

§  Working with First Nations.

§  Spreadsheets, word processing, the internet, databases, and other related computer applications.

§  Project management and work plan development, including budget tracking and reporting.

§  Developing communication material and strategies.

§  Committee and community facilitation.

 

Preferred Education and Knowledge:

§  High School Diploma.

§  Post secondary education would be an asset (natural resource management, communications, public administration, etc.).

§  Life/work experiences with Reserve land management.

§  Knowledge of Gwa’sala – ‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations history, culture and present socio-economic challenges and opportunities.

§  Flexible, including with working evenings and/or weekends
