Position Overview
The Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Nations (GNN) is in the process of reclaiming jurisdiction over child and
family services. On August 13, 2024, GNN enacted Aux’stila du gingananam Child and Family Protection
and Support Law, which will come into force on April 1, 2025.
Under this law, child and family services will be delivered through the Galgapothla Family Services Society,
a separate entity established by GNN. The Galgapothla Family Services Liaison will play a key role in
supporting the Nation during this transition by coordinating between GNN and the Society and supporting
leadership in the implementation of jurisdiction.
Key Responsibilities
Policy and Legislative Development
• Support the development of regulations under Aux’stila du gingananam
• Identify and advance potential amendments to legislation as required
• Assist in the development and negotiation of government-to-government agreements related to
child and family services
Executive and Governance Support
• Prepare briefings and reports for Chief and Council on child and family services matters
• Support leadership in fulfilling obligations under Coordination Agreements and GNN law
• Provide administrative and strategic support to the Council portfolio holder for Child and Family Services
Liaison with Legal Counsel
• Coordinate communication between GNN and legal counsel regarding child and family services
• Support leadership in understanding and implementing legal advice
Coordination and Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with GNN departments (e.g., Health) and community bodies (e.g., Elders)
• Support the development of agreements (e.g., MOUs) between GNN and the Galgapothla Family
Services Society
• Facilitate coordination to support effective service delivery under GNN law
Qualifications and Knowledge
• Diploma or degree in Social Work, Counselling, Human Services, or a related field
• Knowledge of GNN community, governance, customs, protocols, and laws
• Understanding of external service systems and agencies
• Knowledge of administrative best practices

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
