PreKindergarten/Kindergarten Education Assistant/ECE – Start Date: August 29, 2026
Full-time – 7 hours per day – ($26.00 – $32.00 per hour) depending on experience
The Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw School is seeking a full-time Education Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.
We are a band-operated Independent School that enrolls 125 students from PreKindergarten to Grade 7. We use a trauma-informed perspective to support our vision and embed traditional culture and language into curriculum planning, daily lessons, and yearly celebrations.
Qualifications:
• Minimum Grade 12 diploma
• ECE or ECEA Certification or EA Certification (or working towards)
• Training/work experience in Child and Youth Care, Special Education, and/or an Education Assistant
• Experience working with neurodiverse children
• Not required but an asset:
* Experience working in a First Nations Community
* CPR/First Aid (willing to get certification)
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to develop and maintain warm, caring, and responsive relationships with children.
• Ability to establish and maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with families, staff, community members, Elders, and other professional partners.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, Indigenous cultures, languages, histories, and traumainformed approaches that support student wellbeing.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters
• Ability to demonstrate a positive, professional, and respectful attitude at all times, reflecting the values of Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw School, including Maya’xala (respect).
• Physically capable of performing the duties required by the position.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team to develop and implement individualized programs and support plans.
• Flexibility, patience, and the ability to remain calm and solution-focused in a dynamic school environment.
• Self-motivated – able to take initiative in supporting students’ needs
Responsibilities:
• Support children to participate fully in various learning settings – gym, outdoor classroom
• Encourage social skills, independence and problem-solving through play ages 3 – 5
• Work with small groups and individuals on specific educational goals and whole classes to assist with student inclusion in various classroom settings
• Lunch program supervision support with snack prep, clean up, and kitchen duties
• Support with preparing materials and managing routines
• Work to improve practice through professional development
• Contribute to a positive school culture
